Some journeys begin as an idea and gradually become something far more personal. In just a few days, we will depart for Kenya on a long-awaited itinerary that has been carefully curated around the experiences that matter most to us.

A Long-Awaited Journey to Kenya

I designed our Kenya itinerary to provide variety, perspective, and access. We will experience wildlife from the ground during traditional game drives, from the air during a hot-air balloon safari, and from the water during lake-based game viewing. Each perspective offers a different way to understand the landscape and the animals that inhabit it.

Without giving away our whole trip, we look forward to a private visit with orphaned baby elephants through the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust and a night at Giraffe Manor—an experience that has been on our travel wish list for years.

When "On-Trip" Coverage May Be Enough

Not every traveler needs a policy covering the entire period from the initial trip deposit through the return home. Some travelers already have protection for certain pre-departure losses through refundable airline arrangements, credit-card travel benefits, or other existing coverage.

For those travelers, an “on-trip” policy may be a practical and less-expensive option. This type of coverage focuses primarily on the actual travel dates, beginning on your day of departure, and may offer benefits such as emergency medical treatment, medical evacuation, trip interruption, travel delays, or baggage protection while traveling internationally.

There is an important limitation: on-trip policies do not cover pre-existing medical conditions. Coverage, exclusions, and benefit limits also vary considerably among policies.

Travel insurance document review with your professional insurance agent

Before purchasing travel protection, identify the coverage you already have and the gaps that remain. I can provide quotes for available options, but you should review the policy terms and discuss coverage questions with a licensed insurance professional.
